What is the Australian Student about?
Australian Student is an informational site for students, combined with a social network and integrated forum. Each member of the site receives an account with a profile page. The profile page allows members to upload photos, connect to friends, maintain a daily blog, keep track of events using an integrated calendar and to receive comments from other members. Each aspect of the profile page can be kept private, but can also be shared with friends or the general public. The profile page also gives direct access to the member's mail and to the forum and social network. Students are encouraged to become involved in the site and use it to assist their education by seeking help from their peers via the forum.

Is the site free to join?
Yes Totally.
However, there are various offers around the site which are not free, but these are obvious, because they will ask you to pay for them. These offers include TI Calculators, International Phone Cards, Think Mobile Plans, Music Downloads, Ring tone Downloads etc.

How do I find people on the site?
At the top of most pages on the right hand side, you will see a search box. This can be used to search for a person, city, state, country or any other word really. Any member, article, offer or classified ad that contains the search word that was entered, will be retrieved.
Another way to search for a friend or member, is to go to the 'social network' page and use the search option there.

How do I invite members to be my friend?
At the top of every members profile page, you will find a 'Request As Friend' option. If you select this option, a request will be sent to that member. You can find your friends using the search processes mentioned above.

How do I remove a member from my friends list?
There are two ways to remove a friend. One option is to select 'Manage Friends' from your profile page. Friends can then be selected for deletion, from the list of friends that are displayed. The second option involves going to the profile page of the friend you wish to remove. At the top of every 'friends' profile page, you will find a 'Remove As Friend}' option. If you select this option, that member will be removed from your list of friends.

How do I customise my profile?
Basic color changes can be done using the 'Customise' option at the top of your Profile page.

How do I change my 'Personal Information' or the 'About Me' details?
These details can be changed using the 'Preferences' option at the top of your Profile page.

How do I change the privacy settings on my profile page?
These settings can be changed using the 'Privacy' option on your Profile page. You can choose to keep your profile completely private if you want. However, there are also options to allow just your friends to view your profile page, or alternatively, to allow anyone to view your profile page.

How do I add, modify or delete pictures on my profile page?
By selecting 'Manage Photos' on your profile page, you will be given the ability to add, edit or delete photos. You will also have the option of adding photos into a nominated folder.

How do I create new folders for my photos to be placed in?
By selecting 'Manage Photos' on your profile page, you will be given the ability to create or delete folders.

How do I add a picture to the top left hand side of my profile page?
If you haven't already loaded a photo, go into 'Manage Photos' on your profile page and select the 'Add Photo' button. On the next screen, you will see a 'browse' button which will allow you to select a photo from your desktop. Once done, select 'Add Photo', which will upload the photo. From here, go back into 'Manage Photos', click on the photo you would like to set as your Profile image. The next screen that appears will allow you to select the 'Set This Photo As Your Account Picture' button. Once selected, the photo should appear on the top left hand corner of your profile page.

If I want to email another member, how do I do it?
Emailing can be done by either going directly into your 'Mail' from the links on the left hand side of most pages, or via the 'Mail' on your profile page. When you are filling out the new mail message, you must enter the member's 'username' as the recipient.
If you do not know the 'username' of your friend, use the search option located at the top of the page, to find them. Once you have found them, their profile page will appear. At the top of their profile page will be see a 'Send Email' option. By selecting this option your friends 'username' will be automatically added as the recipient when the new mail message is being created.

How do I create, edit or delete a blog?
Blogging maintenance is done via the 'Manage Blog' option on your profile page.

How do I access my calendar?
Your calendar can be accessed in two different ways. Firstly it can be accessed by selecting the 'View' or 'Manage' options next to the 'Calendar', on the left hand side of the Home Page, or secondly, by selecting 'Manage Calendar' on your Profile page.

How do I update my calendar?
Your calendar can be updated by selecting 'Manage Calendar' via on of the two methods mentioned above. Manage Calendar gives you the ability to add new events or delete old events on your calendar.

How do I add comments to a members profile page?
Comments can be added by simply typing your message in the empty box at the bottom of any profile page and selecting 'Post Comment'.

How do I access my mail?
Emailing can be done by either going directly into your 'Mail' by choosing 'Inbox', 'Outbox' or 'Create' from the links on the left hand side of most pages, or via the 'Mail' option on your profile page. Once inside mail, you can view your inbox, outbox or create a mail message.

How do I create a mail message?
To create a new mail message, select the 'Create' option within your mail. Fill out the required details and then click 'Send Mail'. Please ensure that you fill out the 'recipient' of the message with the member's 'username'.

How do I delete mail?
Mail messages can be deleted by accessing either the inbox or outbox. Within the inbox or outbox, you will have the ability to delete mail messages.

Can I place ads under the 'Free Classifieds'?
Yes. You can also modify or delete any classified ad that you have listed. However, please note that the classified ads are not for business use.

Can I submit my own articles?
Yes, but not directly. We encourage students to write their own content - articles, news, stories, experiences etc. If you have written an article that you would like to place on the site, please email it to us. We would be happy to load them on your behalf.

Can I add my own items to the 'Offers' section of the website?
No. Offers belong to Australian Student only.

What is the easiest way to invite friends to join Australian Student?
There is an email facility on the 'Social Network' page. Simply enter your friends email address and click on the 'send' button. A message will then be sent to your friend with details to explain that you are a member and that you would like them to consider joining Australian Student.

What should I do after joining Australian Student?
We recommend that all new members introduce themselves using the 'Are you a new member?' forum, then get involved in as many forums as possible. As always, the more you put into the site, the more you will get back.
